WHY I'M THE BOSS DOESN'T WORK!
The reason I'm starting off with this is that most people regardless of position or title feel they are the boss or have a bossy attitude.
Why You ask? We're human with minds and all feel we have the best way or at least a good idea that needs to be heard. Yet, when that voice isn't heard; the take charge person or passive aggressiveness begins.
Which isn't a strange reaction to being snubbed or ignored.
Now, we have a tension-filled workplace with underlined agendas taking away from the companies agenda.
So, how do we avoid this in our organizations?
Conceptual Departmentalize
This is not a new idea. It's simply putting execs with execs and mailroom in the mailroom. It's building departments has teams in itself with a little extra spice.
Now, keep the structure of manager, supervisor, lead etc.
And keep having meetings with each department but instead of the quick briefing include an brainstorming idea for projects or office concerns.
Separate meetings if necessary. In fact, having separate meetings with themes help each meeting move swifter because each participant is able to focus knowing there is another meeting to address whatever issue!
Treating all the comments as if it came the from the said department head. Yet, now the managers are merely managing the work not the ideas. Empowering your staff and labor that they have a say on what goes on.
Plus, it takes stresss off the management to feel they must do everything.
VS MENTALITY
WHEN A TEAM HAS NO OPPONENT THAN HOW TO THEY TRAIN OR EVEN COMPETE?
IMPLEMENTING A VS ATTITUDE IN YOUR BUSINESS IS A MUST!
HERE are A FEW WAYS TO DO IT:
GIVE INCENTIVES FOR BEING TOP PRODUCER IN SAID DEPARTMENT!
Have department vs. department competitions outside of the business! softball, basketball or in charity running events. Speaking of running events you can create a running team for your business to help build a bond.
After all, that's what we are talking about here is building bonds within our companies.
Find other companies that want to compete and create a league!
Put up the competitions business productivity numbers and declare if the business beats those numbers then everyone gets a bonus or company picnic!
By putting up another company it allows yours to feel they all now have a common enemy. Saying, well I didn't get top producer but we whooped them and I got this for my efforts!
CONSTANT EDUCATION!
Always offer some sort of class or trip that is informal and informative.
This not only helps your team feel more confident in asking questions and doing a better job. It helps your company stay ahead of the competition as a TEAM.
REACHABLE
Whatever role You play in leadership FOR your cOMpany make your self-available and concerned.
Available to help in areas of work not just say hey where is this or that? Yet, assisting with problems hands-on and explaining patiently how they can handle it on their own.
Concerned is not that tricky. If an employee is always having issues than being concerned with the business is imperative. Other than that keep a listening hear even when we don't care!
